1-1/2 Rubles, 1839. St. Petersburg Mint. Nicholas I. NGC MS-62. KM-C-173.1; Bit-892. Variety with large rays. A fairly RARE and elusive type, this nearly-Choice specimen presents the bust of Alexander I and the monument dedicated to the Battle of Borodino--though a French victory, it led to the Russian army's eventual repulsion of Napoleon and his French forces. Mostly a lighter gray throughout, with some darker amber hues further accentuating the devices, and with a good deal of minty brilliance emanating from the protected areas. From the Sigma Collection.
