Paul I/Scholastic Silver Award Medal, 1871. PCGS SPECIMEN-58.cf. Dia-258.1/258.3. By C. Leberecht & V. Alexeev. Diameter: 51mm. Obverse: Garlanded and ermine-mantled bust right; Reverse: Grape vines with bunches growing up trellises; radiant sun to upper right; date partially engraved 18'71" below. A fairly SCARCE issue used as a prize for pupils, with the reverse iconography likening the burgeoning youth as young grapevines growing toward the sun. Attractively toned and very lightly handled.
