Catherine II silver Medal on the Death of General Alexander Lanskoy 1784 MS62 PCGS, by J.B. Gass, Diakov-200.1 (R3), Smirnov-303, Reichel-4482 (R3). 44mm. Obv. Wigged bust of General Lanskoy left. Rev. Four trees surrounding a memorial obelisk, with birth date, and death date below. Boldly struck, in very high relief, with reddish-golden patina over prooflike fields. A very rare medal in silver and the first example we have offered. Lanskoy was the official lover of Catherine the Great and died in 1784 of diptheria.
