"Albertus" Taler, 1753-S. Mannheim Mint. Peter III (as Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp). NGC MS-64. Dav-1353; KM-226.1; Bit-61. An interesting and VERY RARE crown featuring the future czar (and husband of Catherine II "the Great"), this impressive near-Gem radiates with extreme brilliance and allure, all while an enticing tone composed mostly of gunmetal gray further excites. Struck for the duchy of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp, it displays the then-duke in an elegant armored bust draped in ermine, with the reverse depicting an imperial eagle and Order of St. Andrew very reminiscent of the contemporary coinage Russia, the vast realm that Peter would rule only briefly during 1762.
